Inside Kuala Lumper's Coolest Hotel

This 'new kid' on the block has made a beautiful splash in Kuala Lumpur by adding quirky personality, without sacrificing style and modern comforts.

Hotel Stripes has only just opened this year (2017), and has already been recognised as one of the top 10 new hotel openings in Asia by 'The Australian' newspaper. Here's why we agree:

FIVE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Modern Design

  • Room comfort and views

  • Rooftop pool view

  • Facilities such as an well setup gym, pool, wifi, Cafe area, workspace etc

  • First class service

THE CONCEPT

Character, sophistication, comfort and incredible style make this hotel one of the best in KL city.

The lobby is filled with hanging glass lamps, one of the restaurants has an entire wall made of red brick and the perfectly square seats in the Snug breakfast restaurant are straight out of an interior design magazine.

It's the ultimate place for a staycation and the value for money here is extraordinary.

THE SETTING

Slightly out of town, Hotel Stripes is still within walking distance to most of the city's attractions.

The huge pin-like tower (the Menara Tower) that you'll see from the hotels roof top swimming pool is a 33 minute walk.

It's a 25 minute walk to the Petronas Towers and the closest shopping mall is just a quick 6 minute walk down the road.

25 minutes drive north, you find yourself at Batu Caves - one of the most visited destinations in Malaysia.

THE ROOMS

Spacious, comfortable and luxurious.

Soft carpet lines the living and bedroom area where your bed is like a soft cloud of candy floss, complete with huge fluffy pillows and a view of the Menara tower peaking though the shutters.

Other highlights include:

  • Huge desk space

  • Large showers with benches - so yep... you can sit in the shower!

  • Large comfortable couch, alarm, iron and iron board, hair dryer, dressing gowns and slippers, international power outlets,

THE ACTIVITIES

  • Tuesday to Friday the rooftop bar is open, with two-for-one cocktails and candlelit poolside nibbles.

  • 3 shopping malls within walking distance will keep any girl happy.

  • The fully equiped gym has an amazing sound system, complimentary water and fruit, yoga mats and sweat towels.

  • Splash the day away at the infinity rooftop swimming pool, or just bathe in the warm sunshine with a cocktail by your side.

  • Sightseeing areas of KL are all within 30 mins drive, and the hotel's front desk is quick to organise or book any outings.

THE FOOD

Exceptional meals and service - the best we experienced during our time in Malaysia, and some of the best we've ever had in the world. Attentive and genuine.

Breakfast is served on level 2 at 'The Snug' restaurant where juices are served in glass bottles and fruit, sandwiches and whole fruit are kept in large fridges (in individual packets) if you're off for a meeting or wanting to take breakfast with you. It's all ready to 'grab and go'.

Steak fries and truffle infused mash, delicious fish dishes and specialty items such as escargot (snails) are some of the delicacies that forms the menu at Brasserie 25 - a french style fine dining restaurant on the ground floor.

Every day from 3-6pm there is an afternoon tea where you can feast on fried savoury treats before indulging in mouth watering french pastries and sweet treats, including the most delicious raspberry and white chocolate macaron you'll ever try. We couldn't stop!

INSIDER TIPS

  • View from the swimming pools is exceptional. Make sure to head up for sunrise to watch the sky turn bright pink all by yourself.

  • Mini bar is complimentary.

  • Fresh pressed juices are served at breakfast.

  • Wifi speed is fast.

  • The high tea is so good, it's worth the stay at Hotel Stripes for that alone.

GETTING THERE

  • 50-60minute drive from KUL International airport. We suggest taking Uber or Grab for the cheapest and most hassle free way.

  • KLIA Ekspres is a fast, direct train that travels between the airport and KL Sentral. Cost is MYR55 one way, or MYR100 return. It's then a 10-12 minute taxi ride to the hotel from the train station.

  • Skybus is an AirAsia operated bus which costs MYR10-15 to KL Sentral.
